WARNING: Consuming as much coffee as HazardSports can be harmful to your health!

When the early morning starts out stacking all-of-the-miles on a motorcycle, only to return home to download and edit footage all night, then render it in different formats for various platforms... a little extra "pep" is in order. The aroma of smashing those coffee beans into smithereens makes waking up and pepping up just a matter of drinking a cup. Oh, and have you seen my cup? It holds all-the-ounces! My afternoon "advanced" setting is to call ahead about 1/2 hour before I return home and ask someone to turn the coffee machine's warming plate back on. That way, I'm ready to start round two of stacking all-the-gigabytes. Does this paragraph sound a little jittery? Yeah, a Hazard-sized cup of coffee can do that to you!

Just the smell of it.

Coffee has become another one of those things where I enjoy the process almost as much as the finished product. The smell of the beans while I'm grinding, the aroma of the brew billowing into the air, the steam coming off the coffee while I'm pouring it into my above-ground-pool-sized coffee mug, and the smooth taste as I'm drinking from my favorite cup — that's the beautiful calm before the storm. Yes, let's do this! It's an experience! My friend Chris gave me the 1Zpresso grinder when he and his family stayed at our house, and during that visit he also introduced me to Counter Culture Hologram coffee. That sent me a little further down the rabbit hole of grinding fresh coffee and paying more attention to how different equipment and preparation can change the experience. The Ninja coffee maker, 1Zpresso grinder, and the other items linked above are the equipment currently associated with this part of my coffee routine. Just like this website, I like to keep things simple. No exotic procedures or 20-minute coffee-making tutorial here. Grind it, add water, hit a button, drink a cup, and get on with the day. Repeat as needed.

Super Long Road Trips

For super-long road trips in the car, I usually prep three coffee boosts. I drink the first one in a Hazard-sized cup of coffee while filling two Milwaukee Packout 20 oz tumblers. When I need my second boost, the coffee inside that tumbler is still piping hot! I think somehow it actually gets even hotter inside that thing. I definitely need to let it cool a bit before sipping. But that pre-game of letting the aroma fill the car is appreciated by everyone riding with me.

By the time I need boost number three, it is usually at the perfect temperature. Bringing my own coffee is so much better than drinking random cups of coffee from random gas stations, from machines I am not certain are clean, and out of foam or plastic-lined cups. Those are not the flavor enhancers I am looking for. Just sayin'.

If you think this all seems a little crazy... I would have to agree. But if you agree, you're my kind of coffee people. I'm not saying I never drink coffee while I'm out, but if I can help it, I prefer to prep my own so I know it's going to be coffee I enjoy, worry-free. Those rare times I've had to dump a cup of gas station coffee were really disappointing. If I can avoid that, I will.
