The 6V trike was great on flat terrain. We would have to carry it up our steep driveway.

The new trike is 12V. More expensive but may be better for driveways with an incline.

6 VOLTS OF FREEDOM !

This was my son's first motorized vehicle. It was small enough for him to enjoy laps in the kitchen and living room. He had so much fun on this trike. The molded hard plastic tires surprisingly still worked well outside on our community's private gravel road, as long as you mostly stayed in the worn-down vehicle track. The BMW ride-on trike is a good-looking bike too. It is a small electric ride-on motorcycle designed for toddlers. The three wheels create the stability he needed for solo operation. For us, this type of bike filled an important space between kicking his feet with plenty of assistance to balance on a balance bike and having a powered motor to control a machine totally unassisted. Its low speed makes this type of ride-on useful at such an early stage. He enjoyed riding next to us when we went for walks outside.

The bike uses a 6V rechargeable battery and is operated with the handlebars to steer and a foot pedal for acceleration. The manufacturer lists a speed of approximately 1.8 mph. It includes working headlights and built-in music, which add to the toy-like experience for a toddler.

It Wasn't About Speed

What mattered most to us was not speed or performance. At this stage, the value was simply giving my son time around a powered bike and allowing him to become comfortable sitting on it, holding the handlebars, looking where he was going, and understanding that his own input made the motorcycle move. Those early experiences taught him some basic skills, but mostly it was just fun.

This trike gave him significantly more "seat time" during his early motorcycling journey. At this stage you can only expect him to stay on two wheels for so long. But a motorized trike offers pure fun and freedom. We thought he was going to wear this thing out but it outlasted his need for it. This thing didn't skip a beat! Since it was still going strong, we gave the bike to another family for their two children to enjoy.

ATGATT

ATGATT: All The Gear, All The Time - is the only standard that we can encourage for motorcycle safety. While we are guilty of breaking the ATGATT recommendation, we do not encourage others to do so. A properly sized and rated helmet, along with protective clothing and body protection, is always best practice. For more information click here.
